What are the normal causes of hair loss?
You may lose hair due to various reasons. The hair loss may be temporary or permanent.
- The first reason is scalp damage by chemical treatment of hair in salons and mishandling of hair.
- Some other reasons relate to deficiency in diet. That is reversible.
- Some medications and diseases can cause temporary hair loss. Most of these reasons relate to a condition or a disease or a drug. As soon as that situation changes, the hair grows back. Hair loss after pregnancy or a severe disease comes under this category.
- Permanent hair loss is caused by conditions such as Androgenetic Alopecia.
You need not lose hope about your hair. Today medications are available that can help you correct hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) also.
The main factor is to contact the doctor as soon as you observe the beginning of any hair loss.

What causes Male Pattern Baldness ?
Some men are genetically determined to be particularly sensitive to the effects of a male sex hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) that disrupts the normal pattern of hair growth. In these men, DHT causes the hair follicles to shrink. As a result, the growth phase becomes shorter and over time, normal hairs are gradually replaced by finer, downy hairs. Eventually, all that is left is a miniature hair follicle with no hair inside it.

Studies have shown that with only 90 minutes of continuous scratching by thefingernails, it is possible to remove all of the cuticular scale, a protectivecovering on individual hairs, off of a hair shaft. This loss leaves the hairshaft weakened and permanently damaged, making it easily susceptible to breakageand hair loss.

FAQs on Minoxidil
How does Minoxidil work?
Minoxidil appears to work by gradually enlarging and lengthening hair follicles, which have been gradually shrinking due to Androgenetic Alopecia. The growth phase may also be extended giving the hairs an opportunity to reach a longer length before they fall out.
How to apply Minoxidil?
1. Make sure your scalp is dry (hair can be damp).
2. Part your hair in the area of hair thinning.
3. Take 1ml of Minoxidil solution.
4. Spread the liquid evenly over the hair loss area.
5. If you use your fingers, wash hands with soap and water.
What to expect from the treatment of Minoxidil?
Hair regrowth with Topical Minoxidil involves some time. While someindividuals see results faster than others, studies show that at least 4 monthsof treatment is generally necessary before there is any evidence of regrowthwith topical Minoxidil.
Within the first few weeks, as Minoxidil begins working, you mayexperience more hair loss than usual. This is temporary and an expected part ofthe Minoxidil process. If this hair loss continues even after 6 weeks, talk toyour doctor. Early hair regrowth is soft and colorless. However, with continueduse, new hairs would become the same color and thickness as your other hair. Iftreatment is successful, the first thing you will notice is less shedding within90 days of beginning treatment. This is because Minoxidil may prolong the growthphase of the hair cycle, thus increasing the number of follicles in the growthphase at the same time. Because Minoxidil is a treatment, not a cure, furtherprogress is only possible by using Minoxidil continuously over the long term.
